Angel Tree
Posted Saturday, December 20th, 2008 by kstein
We support Angel Tree, a charity which assists children whose parents are in prison.
“Right now, an estimated 1.5 million children have a mom or dad in prison. The number is huge – but so is the opportunity. Angel Tree is a ministry that reaches out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ…At Christmastime, volunteers from your church purchase and deliver gifts to the children of inmates in their parent’s name.”

Interesting Christmas Gifts
Posted Saturday, December 20th, 2008 by kstein
iBreath: An accessory for your iPhone or iPod touch which tells you if you’re too drunk to drive home. This can either be offensive or lifesaving.
Blast Knuckles: This site sums it up right - “950,000 volts of stun power at your fingertips, in the shape of brass knuckles.” It’s basically a taser in the shape of brass knuckles.
Radio-Controlled Key Finder: Finds your keys. Who wouldn’t want that?
R2 Fish Training School Kit: Train your fish to do your bidding. If you haven’t got fish, you can find them here (oh, the wonders of the internet).
Digital Spoon Scale: For the obsessive-compulsive cook.
Asteroids “Watch”: While it’s not really a watch, you wear it like one, and play asteroids, the classic arcade game, with an accelorometer - you control it by tilting your wrist.
Porsche Sled: The automaker has created a beautifully designed sled. It’s a bit steep price-wise, and it’s 220 pounds, but hey, look how cool it is!
ThinkGeek Drumset Shirt: It is what it sounds like - a drumset on your shirt. A playable drumset.
KAR (Kitchen Assisting Robot): A robot which washes your dishes, developed by Panasonic and University of Tokyo.
Floating Dog Collar: A collar that inflates and saves your dog from drowning during a flood.
Pink Barbie P520 Cellphone: Self-explanatory.
Burger King Fragrence: MSNBC says that its appeal “may lie in its ridiculousness.” Who would want to smell like fast food?
Train Watch: A watch with trains that circle the face as it plays “I’ve Been Working On The Railroad.”
Luminous Tablecloth: A tablecloth woven of special fibers, available in 4 colors, this table gives off a subtle & mysterious glow.
MP4 & Video Camera watch: Multi-functional watch which raises the question - why would you want all of this on your wrist?
Baby Storage Wall-Mount: Suspend your baby from the wall. That’s about it.
Fizz Saver: Keeps your soda from going flat. Somehow. We’re not quite sure.
USB Manga Men: For the love of God, what are these?!

Guest on the show during the 8th hour and employee of LIJIT, a revolutionary blogging search tool.
“When your readers search for information in real life, their first step is to typically seek out a friend for the answer. If their friend doesn’t have the answer they need, someone in that friend’s social network may. Eventually, they get an answer they trust, because it came from a source they trust. Your readers can now have that same experience on the web and it all starts with the source they trust. That source is you, the blog publisher.”
Her blog is located here. Apparently, she’s also a stand-up comic!

Stupidest Christmas Gifts Ever
Posted Saturday, December 20th, 2008 by kstein
An inflatable fruitcake. As the website says, why not? Nobody eats them anyway.
The newest revolution in plastic wishbone technology. Wait, what?
You can own your very own Barack Obama “Yes We Can” opener. It’s basically a can opener with the President-elect’s face on it.
The Bowlingual Dog Translator: Who doesn’t want to know what their dog is saying? “In its memory are 5000 sample dog voiceprints.” What if your dog hates you? Terrible gift idea.
No “worst gifts” list is complete without this claassic - Billy the Big Mouth Bass.
More which couldn’t be linked to include: a pound of ground beef with a bow on it, an ashtray, an engagement ring from an ex-husband who meant to give it to his girlfriend, and hair curlers which included someone else’s hair already in them.
UPDATE: Here’s more
Calendar made of matches: What, do you light the page on fire after every month?
Spongebob eye speakers: This is just terribly creepy.
Mousepad warmer: Although the site’s in all japanese, it’s a pretty clear concept: Keep your mouse warm.
6 foot rubber band: Ouch.
Moondust Watch: Actually, this is pretty cool, except for the fact that it might be dust.
Beverage Dispenser: pours your drink from the bottom up. Defy gravity with cola. Wooo.
Vertical Lamp: Alright, it’s a solar-powered projection…of a lamp…on your wall.
Gingerbread Spoon: While it’s pretty cool, I don’t think it would work. It’d get all soggy!
